HEAVY-DUTY DIRECT-DRIVE TRANSMISSION
Direct-Drive RVD features true shaft-to-shaft input power in turning the compressor at 4 pole (1,800 rpm @ 60 hz) motor speeds.
Direct-Drive RVDi features the same direct-drive transmission as the RVD plus, an inverter automatically varies the compressor speed of an inverter rated 4 pole (1,800 rpm @ 60 hz) motor across a range of speeds to match output to demand and maximize energy efficiency.
EASY ACCESS SHAFT COUPLING INSERT
RVD & RVDi 7-11, features a new easy-access shaft coupling housing engineered for fast and easy coupling element replacement. Simply unlock one hub, slide it back to expose and remove the split coupling insert. Then, reverse the procedure to reinstall. Fast, simple, and easy to perform.
RVD & RVDi Series compressors are housed in a powder coat painted steel cabinet. The slow rotating speeds of our vane technology deliver sound levels as low as 66 dB(A).
RELIABLE ROTARY VANE AIRENDS
Mattei Rotor Stator Units (RSU) consist of a single rotor supported by two (2) white metal bushes that routinely deliver >100,000 hours of life and never require an overhaul. Compare that to screw type compressors that use six-or-more radial and thrust bearings and typically operate for a fraction of that time before requiring a costly overhaul.
CAPACITY CONTROLS ADAPT TO YOUR DEMANDS
The demands of every air system are unique, which is why RVD Series provides you with three different control schemes (Continuous, Automatic, Modulation) to choose from to best adapt air production to the demands and dynamics of your specific air use. (RVDi Series is inverter controlled).
Features the state-of-the-art Maestro XB electronic controller to automatically monitor and manage operating parameters, advise of service requirements, and control the operation of the compressor.
The heart of Mattei's legendary pressure stability over time begins with our exclusive hydraulically controlled “set it and forget it” inlet valve, which, unlike competitive pneumatic control circuits, ensures consistent and reliable pressure regulation over time.
CONTINUOUS MODE: RVD SERIES
Continuous mode is ideal for applications with continuous heavy air demands and adequate air storage. The motor runs constantly until you manually turn it off.
AUTOMATIC MODE: RVD SERIES
Automatic mode is ideal for systems with fluctuating air demands and/or plenty of air storage. It allows the compressor to automatically start and stop the motor saving energy during extended periods where air is not being consumed.
MODULATION MODE: RVD SERIES
Modulation mode automatically adjusts the intake air opening to match output to air demand. It keeps pressure stable within a ± 4-5 psi range. Ideal for applications with little storage and large variations in demand and applications where the compressor runs near full capacity most of the time.
INVERTER MODE: RVDi Series only
Inverter mode automatically adjusts the rotational speed of the electric drive motor to match air output to air demand. Referencing a 4-20 mA signal, RVDi increases or decreases motor speed to keep pressure stable at the desired set-point. Ideal for applications with adequate air storage that operated between 40% and 75% of rated capacity. Also, ideal for use as a “trim” compressor wherein a “fixed-speed” compressor runs continuously at full-rated capacity and the energy efficient RVDi adapts to additional air demands.
PREMIUM EFFICIENCY MOTOR
RVD models are equipped with premium efficient, totally enclosed fan-cooled IE3 TEFC electric motors as standard. RVDi models feature an inverter-duty rated IE3 TEFC motor.
Energy-saving Wye-Delta motor starters are standard on Direct-Drive RVD Series. The inverter in RVDi Series models ensure a slow soft start to eliminate in-rush current spikes.
CUTTING EDGE COOLING SYSTEM
Oversized radiator is sized for +115°F (+46°C) ambient. VSD controlled cooling fan motor ensures precise operating temperature control. Fan blades feature “whale fin” trailing edge biomimicking technology for silent energy efficient operation.
Benefit from V-Life synthetic lubricant that was precision engineered for 3,000 hours of operation between oil changes. V-Life, delivers maximum value to single-shift operations.
Built-in Air-cooled aftercooler with 18°F approach temperature. Comes with a moisture separator with automatic zero air-loss condensate drain as standard that is shipped loose for field installation.
All components are easily accessible for fast and easy maintenance. Features quick-change air filters and spin-on oil filters and air/oil separator filters for quick and easy maintenance. Genuine Mattei parts and oil combine with long operating intervals to deliver significant savings over the life of the machine.
DIRECT-DRIVE RVD SERIES OPTIONAL FEATURES
The Heaters Kit option has been engineered to allow you to place the compressor in an ambient as low as +14°F and protect the internal components from freezing.
AIR TREATMENT PRODUCTS
Mattei offers comprehensive air treatment accessories to complete your air system including: in-line coalescing filters, refrigerated air dryers, desiccant air dryers, sterile in-line filters, air receiver tanks, timer and demand style condensate drains, and oil/water condensate separators.
RVD 7-11 models can be mounted onto 80- or 120-gallon air receiver tanks.
SIDE-MOUNTED REFRIGERATED AIR DRYER
Engineered for a bolt-on refrigerated air dryer that allows you to get a base mounted or tank mounted air compressor with a pre-piped refrigerated air dryer. Dryer design delivers a steady ISO 8573.1 Class 4 dew point when operating in a 100°F ambient with 120°F inlet temperature.
TANK MOUNT WITH SIDE-MOUNTED REFRIGERATED AIR DRYERS
Can be mounted onto 80- or 120-gallon air receiver tanks with a refrigerated air dryer bolted onto the outside of the compressor cabinet. Dryer design delivers a steady ISO 8573.1 Class 4 dew point when operating in a 100°F ambient with 120°F inlet temperature.

Air Intake (1), feeds ambient air into Airend, (2) which is powered by Motor (3). Solenoid Valve (4) is managed by Controller (5) to open and close the inlet valve to deliver ambient air into the airend. Oil Receiver (6) holds the lubricant which is fed to Oil Filter (7) via differential pressure to ensure a clean supply of oil is injected into the Airend (2) to assist in compressing the air. The pressurized air/oil mixture exits the Airend (2) and flows into Oil receiver (6) where the compressed air is separated mechanically from the oil to flow through the Air/oil Separator (8). The compressed air exits the Air/oil Separator (8) and flows through Air Cooler (9A) before exiting the compressor at rated pressure and flow.
In operation, Controller (5) monitors Pressure Probe (10) to open and close Solenoid Valve (4) in conjuction with varying motor (3) speed with inverter (15) to most efficiently match air production to plant air demand (RVDi Models only). Thermostatic Valve (11) remains closed until the proper operating temperature is achieved at which point Thermostatic Valve (11) opens and sends the heated oil to Oil Cooler (9B) for cooling.
The Controller (5) monitors Temperature Probe (12) to control the variable speed Cooling Fan (13) to ensure the desired operating temperature is maintained. If the air pressure gets to high, Safety Valve (14) opens to protect the system from over pressurization.
